The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to start on Monday the construction of the 31.5 kilometers of railway segment of the South Commuter Railway Project (NSCRP) connecting Metro Manila to Laguna province.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista will lead the groundbreaking ceremony of the SCRP segment from Alabang to Calamba, Laguna which include the construction of the viaduct structure and elevated stations in Alabang, Muntinlupa, San Pedro, Pacita, Binan, Santa Rosa, Cabuyao, Banlic and Calamba.
“It will also start the removal of the existing PNR tracks from Alabang to Calamba following the PNR’s temporary closure of the route’s operations,” the DOTr said.
It earlier awarded three contract packages, namely CPs S-04, S-05 and S-06, to the joint venture of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd and Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company Ltd.
The CP S-04 covers the building and civil engineering works of about 8.5 kilometers of railway viaduct structure, including elevated stations at Alabang and Muntinlupa, while the CP S-05 covers the building and civil engineering works of about 12.8 kilometer of railway viaduct, including elevated stations at San Pedro, Pacita, Biñan, and Santa Rosa.
The CP S-06 covers the building and civil engineering works of around 10.2 kilometers of railway viaduct structure, including elevated stations at Cabuyao, Banlic, and Calamba.
The SCRP is part of the 163-kilometer North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) system integrating the National Capital Region (NCR), the Central Luzon (Region III) and Calabarzon (Region IV-A), through PNR Clark Phase 1 and 2 covering the 37-kilometer Tutuban – Malolos, 53-kilometer Malolos – Clark and PNR Calamba (Manila – Laguna).
The Malolos – Clark segment consists of a 53-kilometer line connecting Clark in Central Luzon with Metro Manila and Calamba regions and involves the construction of a 51.2-kilometer Malolos – Clark line and a 1.9-kilometer extension between Solis and Blumentritt stations in Metro Manila.
Phase 1 of the NSCR relates to the 38-kilometer line between Malolos (in Bulacan) and Tutuban (in Manila) while the second 52-kilometer system will deliver transport connection in northwest Manila and northern suburbs of Malolos to the Clark economic zone and Clark International Airport in Central Luzon.
Once operational, the NSCR System will reduce travel time from Clark to Calamba to two hours and will serve an estimated 800,000 passengers daily.
The NSCR project is expected to be completed in 2028.
