AirAsia Philippines on Tuesday eyes doubling its aircraft next year with the recent renewal of the agreement between parent firm Capital A and long-time partner and engine provider CFM International.
CFM’s focus on improving fleet stability and 24/7 virtual monitoring of AirAsia’s LEAP-1A engine operation allows AirAsia to reinstate its full fleet across the Group.
This support is crucial to AirAsia Philippines since the airline plans to double its fleet count in 2024 to support its planned expansion to 45 domestic and international routes.
“The solid backing from CFM International will help us fast-track our recovery plan and expansion next year. We expect this will also allow us to better operate our existing aircraft and the additional A321neo and A330 to service our existing and new markets here in the country and in the ASEAN, giving our guests a better alternative and the best value for money, whilst maintaining our world-class service,” Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines head of communications and public affairs, said.
Capital A, AirAsia Philippines’ parent company also looks forward to capitalizing on this renewed partnership, as the airline reinstates its fleet of 204 aircraft and expand it to more than 300 in the next five years.
AirAsia also supports the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) goal of stronger connectivity between the Philippines and Thailand.
“As one of the leading Philippine carriers backed by a strong regional network, AirAsia Philippines remains dedicated to empowering inclusive and accessible growth across the tourism and travel sectors,” Dailisan said.
“Furthermore, if AirAsia Philippines is provided with more slots as an opportunity to boost tourism, we are ready to facilitate stronger economic ties anchored on tourism and trade in the Philippines and beyond”, he added.
As of September, AirAsia Philippines flies from the Manila International Airport to 11 domestic destinations and 12 international destinations. It maintains two domestic and three international flights out of Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
