Eight-year Angkas campaign for motorcycle taxi as transport alternative ends well with Malacanang endorsement

Angkas, the pioneering motorcycle ride-hailing service provider, on Thursday expressed strong support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiatives to legalize motorcycle taxis and improve regulations covering the Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) sector.

“I echo the call of the President legalizing motorcycle taxis and providing better regulations for the ride-hailing economy,” George Royeca, chief executive of Angkas, said.

This develops in the wake of Marcos’ comments on collaborating with Grab Philippines to formalize motorcycle taxi operations and refine TNVS regulations.

This development aligns with Royeca’s long-standing advocacy he pursued the past eight years.

Royeca emphasizes the potential for broader industry support and acknowledged the significance of Grab’s involvement.

“Companies like Grab can  help amplify that call. I’ve been doing it for years and I’m glad somebody else is coming in to help bring data. The more people talk about it, the more companies push the advocacy, the better it is for everyone,”  Royeca said.

Since its founding in 2015, Angkas has advocated for the adoption of the Motorcycle Taxi legislation that seeks to establish a legitimate transportation option that generates employment opportunities.

Angkas has championed the Motorcycle Taxi proposal as a viable transportation alternative generating employment opportunities. Royeca’s expertise has been instrumental in shaping the MC taxi bill as lawmakers and regulators seek his expertise to ensure its effectiveness and feasibility.

In addition to motorcycle taxis, Royeca advocates for the enhancement of the PUV Modernization Program.

The young CEO then stressed the importance of integrating technology, training, and welfare in the transportation sector.

“By incorporating comprehensive financing mechanisms, subsidies, and training programs, we can equip our drivers with the tools they need to thrive in a modern economy,” Royeca said.

“By reducing waiting times, ensuring reliable and safe travel, and integrating technology for ease of use, we not only improve the daily commute but also enhance the overall quality of life for millions of Filipinos”, he said.
