CAAP hopes to learn best practices from its Hong Kong counterpart

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is exploring a possible collaboration with its Hong Kong counterpart, the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), to increase the number of aircraft movement per hour at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

This is consistent with a directive from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for CAAP to boost flight operations at the NAIA to 48 per hour given the limited infrastructure at the airport.

Aircraft movement at the NAIA ranges only from 40 to 42 per hour. To hit the goal of doubling passenger capacity at the country’s main gateway and in line with the concession agreement for execution with the private sector, the DOTr wants CAAP to increase its flight options.

“We want to collaborate if this is achievable and if yes, how and what to do to achieve the goal,” CAAP deputy director general for administration Danjun Lucas said.

Prior to this, CAAP initiated measures to boost aircraft movement. Earlier, a group of air traffic controllers, along with a delegation from the Department of Transportation, visited the air traffic facilities at Hong Kong airport to learn from its best practices.
