The Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) is taking significant strides in employee safety by introducing an innovative disaster risk dashboard aimed at protecting its workforce from climate-related threats.
Chief risk officer Gabby Tomas said that the dashboard allows the bank to monitor vulnerabilities of over 6,000 employees and 441 locations nationwide, enabling real-time assessments of risks such as flooding and earthquakes.
“This tool helps us strategically position our emergency response teams where they are needed most,” Tomas explained, underscoring the bank’s commitment to data-driven disaster management. The dashboard integrates various resources, including Project NOAH, the Philippines’ primary disaster risk reduction program.
RCBC president and CEO Eugene S. Acevedo emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government to enhance climate adaptation efforts. “Climate action is a shared responsibility,” he noted, calling for collective efforts to prepare for future calamities.
A leader in sustainable finance, RCBC has funded around three gigawatts of renewable energy over the past decade and is the first Philippine bank to cease financing new coal power plants. The introduction of the disaster risk dashboard further solidifies RCBC’s commitment to climate resilience and employee safety.
