Converge ICT to boost international bandwidth with new submarine cables

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is set to double by 2025 its international bandwidth capacity, adding 10 terabits with the launch of two new submarine cable systems, the Bifrost and SEA-H2X cables, the company said Tuesday.

Dennis Anthony Uy, co-founder and CEO of Converge, confirmed that the new cable systems will be operational by 2025, significantly expanding the company’s international reach. “By 2025, we will have an additional 10 terabits international bandwidth capacity as two international cable systems where we have capacity go onstream,” Uy said.

The Bifrost cable system will provide a direct link between Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines to the West Coast of North America, bolstering trans-Pacific connectivity. Meanwhile, the SEA-H2X (South East Asia-Hainan-Hong Kong Express) cable system is a high-capacity fiber-optic network designed to meet rising telecommunications demands across Southeast Asia. With landing points in Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, the SEA-H2X system is expected to play a key role in improving regional connectivity.

“These systems are designed to handle the increasing demand for data traffic in the region,” said Uy. “Our international backbone is now one of the biggest in the country, running at less than 50 percent utilization, ensuring that we can maintain uninterrupted service even in the event of unforeseen outages or disruptions.”

Converge currently operates eight international links with a combined capacity of 5.1 terabits, serving points of presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States. The company also boasts an extensive fiber network, with over 700,000 kilometers of fiber assets, 8 million ports deployed, and 20 landing stations nationwide.

At present, Converge’s network reaches over 16 million homes, covering 62.3 percent of the Philippines’ total households, with more than 2,000 satellites deployed to serve remote areas. “Our network is stronger and more resilient, especially since the completion of our redundancy loops,” Uy said. “We continue to leverage the best digital technology to ensure the most reliable service for our customers.”

Converge’s strategic investments in next-generation infrastructure solidify its position as one of the leading broadband providers in the Philippines and a growing player in the broader Southeast Asian telecom market.
