The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday said San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is on track to complete the first phase of the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (C6), or the C6 Expressway, within the next two to three years. The 32.7-kilometer toll road, which will feature both elevated and at-grade expressway sections, is expected to provide a crucial alternative route linking Parañaque to Quezon City, bypassing notoriously congested roads and relieving traffic pressures on key Metro Manila corridors such as EDSA.
Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized the economic and commercial significance of the project, which is valued at P45.29 billion. “With the expertise of San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine National Construction Corporation (PNCC), this initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable, long-term solutions to Metro Manila’s traffic woes,” Bautista said.
The C6 Expressway is only the first of many major infrastructure projects that will reshape the region’s transportation landscape. In a parallel development, San Miguel Holdings Corporation (SMHC) and PNCC recently signed an agreement to jointly expand toll road networks under a P554 billion plan. The expansion will include several key projects, such as the San Pedro-C6 Laguna Lake Road, which will extend the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) to Taguig, and the Skyway Stage 4, which will connect the southern provinces to Metro Manila.
The joint venture between SMHC and PNCC also covers the construction of other vital routes, including the Tanauan-Tagaytay Expressway, the TR5 extension to Matnog in Sorsogon, and the Pasig River Alignment (Sky 9), which will connect key commercial areas like Buendia and Bonifacio Global City.
SMC’s vast expressway network, including the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), and the Skyway System, has been instrumental in enhancing connectivity and driving economic activity across the region. The C6 Expressway and its associated projects are expected to further strengthen SMC’s pivotal role in improving the Philippines’ transportation infrastructure, easing congestion, and fostering greater regional development.
The completion of the first phase of the C6 Expressway, along with the ongoing expansion of toll networks, is a promising step toward transforming Metro Manila’s urban mobility and supporting long-term economic growth.
