PetroGreen solar project in Isabela boosts jobs, skills, and community impact

PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), the renewable energy arm of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, is advancing its corporate sustainability strategy with tangible benefits for labor and local communities through the Limbauan Solar Power Project (LSPP) in Isabela province.

The 40-megawatt solar facility, under development by PGEC’s subsidiary BKS Green Energy Corp., is projected to generate up to 600 construction jobs at peak, underscoring its economic significance in the region.

In a bid to localize and diversify its workforce, PGEC held a hands-on solar panel installation training on March 18, in partnership with the San Pablo local government, technical contractors Schema Konsult Inc., Trina Solar, and Powerway. The event, hosted in Brgy. Limbauan, trained over 300 residents—including women—for future roles in the green energy sector.

“This is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing local talent and promoting green jobs,” said Yrel V. Ventura, PGEC assistant vice president for environment and community relations. “We want our projects to uplift communities, not just generate electricity.”

Participants received certification, boosting their employability for roles within the LSPP and in the broader renewable energy industry. Local leaders praised the initiative, with Isabela mayor Antonio N. Miro, Jr. highlighting its economic and social value. “This ensures our residents are not only part of the energy transition but also benefit from it economically,” he noted.

Brgy. Limbauan chairman Babylin Pagarigan celebrated the community’s involvement, especially the inclusion of women in the training. “This project is a first for us, and I’m proud we’re part of something that benefits both our people and the environment,” she said.

The LSPP training marks PGEC’s fourth such initiative nationwide, reinforcing its dual commitment to clean energy development and local capacity-building—aligning with the Philippines’ broader renewable energy and inclusive growth objectives.
