MAG doubles A330neo fleet with Airbus order

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), parent of Malaysia Airlines, has placed a firm order for 20 additional Airbus A330-900 widebody aircraft, doubling its future A330neo fleet to 40 units. The agreement was signed during the official state visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to France, underscoring the strategic economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

This fleet expansion marks a key milestone in MAG’s widebody renewal program, initially launched in 2022. With four A330neo units already in service on routes connecting Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali, the expanded order signals MAG’s commitment to long-term growth, enhanced operational efficiency, and sustainability.

MAG Group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail highlighted the aircraft’s compatibility with MAG’s premium service strategy and evolving network demands, noting its superior fuel efficiency, flexibility across route lengths, and passenger-focused cabin design.

Airbus EVP Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry welcomed the repeat order as a strong endorsement of the A330neo’s market-leading performance and comfort, reinforcing Airbus’s position in the widebody segment and deepening its partnership with Malaysia’s flag carrier.

The A330-900, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, offers a range of 7,200 nautical miles and features Airbus’s latest Airspace cabin, supporting MAG’s goals of fleet modernization and competitive positioning in Asia-Pacific and global markets.

The deal also carries policy significance, aligning with Malaysia’s broader aviation and sustainability strategies, and further embedding Airbus in Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem.
