Low-carbon mobility programs pilot in four LGUs

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has turned over electric vehicles (EV), EV charging stations, and other transport equipment to the local governments of Pasig, Baguio, Santa Rosa and Iloilo as part of the program promoting low-carbon urban transport systems in the country.

“We recognize the urgency of green recovery. We want to promote mobility through projects that will protect the environment,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

According to Bautista, the agency is focused on establishing transit-oriented development in the Philippines, particularly on low-carbon mobility.

“A sustainable and environment-friendly transport promotes faster, efficient and safe mobility,” he explained.

As recipients of the EVs, EV charging stations and other transport equipment, the local governments of Pasig, Baguio, Santa Rosa and Iloilo and three transport cooperatives will participate in feasibility studies whose outcome be used in low-carbon transport systems research.

One of the main objectives of the project is the reduction of at least 69,103 tons of greenhouse gases in the country.

The agreement also involved transport cooperatives helping pilot EVs and EV charging stations.

In Baguio City, the St. Louis University, the University of Cordilleras and the University of Baguio will assist the local government in data gathering and research using the EV and EV equipment for possible adoption in PUVs.
