The Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PHILEXPORT) has partnered with leading organizations in a new campaign aimed at protecting Filipinos from increasing scams, particularly during the busy holiday season.
The Be Wais at Magduda Campaign, launched in collaboration with Meta, Bayan Academy, and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Strengthening Private Enterprise for the Digital Economy (SPEED) initiative, aims to raise awareness about various types of fraud, including online shopping scams, bank scams, investment fraud, job scams, love scams, and brand impersonation.
With the Christmas season approaching, the campaign’s partners are emphasizing the growing need for vigilance. As online transactions surge during this time of year, so does the likelihood of encountering deceptive practices.
“We are coming together to ensure that the public is better informed about the risks they face and to protect consumers as we strengthen the nation’s digital economy,” said campaign representatives in a joint statement.
The initiative will primarily take place on digital platforms, where participating organizations will distribute a range of educational materials, such as videos, infographics, and static posts, through their social media channels. These resources are designed to alert Filipinos to common scams and offer practical advice on how to avoid them.
To combat online shopping fraud, for instance, consumers are encouraged to watch for red flags like unverified sellers and offers that seem too good to be true. The campaign advises shoppers to choose payment methods like cash on delivery or to pay digitally only after confirming receipt of their items.
As scams continue to evolve in the digital space, PHILEXPORT and its partners are committed to helping Filipino consumers stay one step ahead of fraudsters this holiday season.
