MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power), the Iloilo-based power distribution utility, has secured approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to consolidate its net-metering and distributed energy resource procedure. The move simplifie the process for customers seeking to install renewable energy solutions, such as rooftop solar systems, in Iloilo City, Central Negros, and Tagbilaran City.
In a statement, MORE Power emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency for consumers interested in renewable energy options. “This initiative aims to simplify the application process for consumers interested in renewable energy solutions, not only in Iloilo City but also extending to Central Negros and Tagbilaran City,” said Roel Castro, MORE Power’s president and CEO.
The ERC approval allows MORE Power to process all relevant applications at its Iloilo office, where it will offer a monthly schedule for the submission and evaluation of applications. This arrangement ensures that authorized ERC representatives can assess and approve applications on-site, expediting the issuance of necessary documents, such as statements of account. The new system will also accommodate submissions from neighboring utilities, including Negros Electric and Power Corp. (NEPC) and Bohol Light Co. Inc. (Bohol Light), making the application process more streamlined for customers across the region.
MORE Power believes that the consolidation of these processes is crucial in accelerating renewable energy adoption in the Visayas, while also contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the company said the move will help lower electricity costs for households and small businesses.
Under the Philippines’ net-metering program, solar power facility owners with a capacity of up to 100 kilowatts can export excess energy to the grid in exchange for electricity bill credits, which may be used as rebates. With the new consolidated process, MORE Power expects to see a significant increase in the number of local consumers adopting solar energy solutions, furthering the country’s sustainability goals.
