Globe Telecom has achieved a significant step toward its net-zero goals by fully transitioning The Globe Tower Cebu (TGTC) to 100 percent renewable energy. The company ceremonially marked this achievement with the signing and turnover of the “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge to the First Abacus Financial Center Condominium Corporation (FAFCCC). This was made possible through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the supply retail arm of Ayala Corporation’s ACEN.
Yoly Crisanto, Globe chief sustainability and corporate communications officer, said that Globe’s commitment to reducing its carbon emissions is aligned with national renewable energy policies and global sustainability standards. Globe’s efforts in this area are underpinned by its pledge to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), positioning the company as a leader in the Philippine telco sector’s sustainability efforts.
Electricity consumption, which accounts for about 30 percent of Globe’s total greenhouse gas emissions, remains a focal point in its decarbonization strategy. The company is making strides with its renewable energy transition, currently operating 33 sites powered by clean energy. With plans to expand this to over 100 sites by 2026, Globe is positioning itself to meet its ambitious targets of reducing its GHG emissions by 42 percent by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Globe’s sustainability efforts extend beyond its operations to encourage environmentally responsible practices among its suppliers, reinforcing the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across its supply chain. Through strategic partnerships and policy alignment, Globe aims to lead the charge in promoting sustainability in the corporate sector and advancing commercial resilience in the face of climate change.
