In a significant step toward sustainable agriculture and waste reduction, the Jollibee Group has partnered with Nutricycle Inc. to convert over 1,500 metric tons of food waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer annually. The initiative, aligned with Jollibee’s Joy for Tomorrow sustainability agenda, not only helps reduce landfill waste but also supports smallholder farmers and reaffirms the company’s commitment to circular economy practices.
Unveiled in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the food waste-to-fertilizer program transforms inedible food scraps from Jollibee facilities using Nutricycle’s organic processing system, which employs black soldier flies to break down the waste. The process is expected to yield up to 960 bags of fertilizer per year.
Half of this output will be donated through the Jollibee Group Foundation’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Program (FEP), enhancing soil productivity for local farmers. The remaining fertilizer will support DENR Calabarzon’s National Greening Program.
“This partnership is part of our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint while finding meaningful ways to support our communities,” said Pepot Minana, global chief sustainability officer of the Jollibee Group.
Nutricycle Inc. president Dino Simbulan called the partnership a model for “how companies can take proactive steps toward environmental responsibility.”
This collaboration follows a series of environmental milestones by the Jollibee Group, including a 44 percent reduction in food loss across its Philippine manufacturing sites since 2020, and a jump in sustainable waste diversion from 24 percent to over 62 percent by end-2024.
With this initiative, Jollibee not only addresses climate challenges but also empowers farmers—proving that sustainability and community development can go hand in hand.
