The Meralco Power Academy (MPA), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has entered into a strategic partnership with Mindanao State University-General Santos (MSU-GenSan) to drive innovation in energy education and training, further strengthening the talent pipeline for the energy sector.
The collaboration aims to develop future-ready professionals by delivering specialized training programs, industry immersion opportunities, and co-developed academic initiatives in critical fields such as renewable energy, nuclear science, and artificial intelligence.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry, with MSU-GenSan Chancellor Shidik T. Abantas highlighting the importance of aligning academic curricula with evolving workforce demands. “This collaboration is vital… to help prevent skill mismatches and ensure our graduates are truly workforce ready,” Abantas said.
Key programs under the partnership include the Mindanao leg of the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit and the development of advanced academic offerings tailored to current energy sector needs.
For MPA, the move extends its broader mission of building a robust pipeline of skilled engineers and scientists. “This collaboration is especially meaningful as it focuses on areas like AI and energy, which align perfectly with our vision to become a center of excellence,” said Meralco EVP and COO, and MPA president, Ronnie L. Aperocho.
The MSU-GenSan deal follows a similar tie-up with MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), reinforcing MPA’s nationwide effort to empower regional academic institutions and cultivate future energy leaders.
