A fresh surge of momentum has swept into the Tanay Wind Power Project, the flagship green energy initiative of listed power firm Alternergy Holdings Corp.
This week, the first shipment of wind turbine generators (WTGs) arrived in the Philippines—marking a major milestone for the 128-megaWatt project, which aims to help power the energy-hungry Luzon Grid. The delivery landed ahead of potential weather-related shipping disruptions from the Northeast Monsoon and the typhoon season.
Transported by ocean barge to Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation’s (ATWC) newly built jetty at Dinahican Port in Infanta, Quezon, the shipment includes twelve 90-meter-long turbine blades—each three times the length of a standard basketball court—along with essential components. These colossal turbines represent the first physical evidence of a development that will help the country accelerate the transformation of its renewable energy landscape.
Once fully assembled and installed at the project site in Tanay, the wind towers will stand nearly 200 meters tall—comparable to Makati landmarks like RCBC Plaza and Ayala Triangle Gardens North. Each turbine, supplied by global green tech leader Envision Energy, boasts a capacity of 8 MW, the largest to be deployed in the Philippines to date.
“This milestone marks a turning point—not just for Alternergy, but for the future of clean energy in the Philippines,” said Knud Hedeager, President of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corporation. “It underscores our unwavering commitment to building a greener, more energy-secure future.”
The project continues to gain momentum, with additional turbine shipments scheduled in the months ahead as the wind farm progresses toward full capacity.
“We’re thrilled to see this project come to life,” Hedeager added. “This isn’t just about delivering megawatts—it’s about making a lasting impact on the country’s energy future. We remain fully engaged with our partners, communities, and government stakeholders to ensure its success.”
The Tanay Wind Power Project is one of five renewable energy developments Alternergy currently has under construction. Together, they form the backbone of the company’s “Road to 500 MW” strategy—its bold commitment to delivering half a gigawatt of clean energy capacity by 2026.
As the blades are carefully offloaded and prepped for delivery to the project site, they stand as more than mechanical parts—they are massive symbols of a national shift toward sustainable power and energy independence.
The Philippines is entering a new era in its energy journey, and the promise of change is blowing in the wind.
