Globe posts boosted speed rates on weekends

Globe Telecom Inc. on Sunday said mobile data download and upload speeds in 127 areas across the Philippines improved in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter.
According to Globe, these include remote areas in the country, bringing better data browsing experience and digital inclusion to more customers.

Independent validation from Ookla of Speedtest Intelligence data has confirmed these results, underlining the digital solutions platform’s commitment to transparency and data-driven performance.

“As we’ve seen a consistent rise in demand for mobile data, especially in the last few years, we have been constantly improving our network to bring better experience to our customers,” said Darius Delgado, head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business.

“We are encouraged by these results, which prove that our efforts are paying off and our customers in far-flung areas are enjoying Globe’s #1stWorldNetwork,” he added.

The most impressive 717.32 percent surge in upload speed was recorded in Clarin, Bohol.

Meanwhile, Barira, Maguindanao posted the highest boost in download speed with a 273.13 percent increase.

Clarin and Barira appeared in Globe’s top download and upload speed lists. They were joined by Taytay, Palawan; Claveria, Cagayan; San Agustin, Surigao del Sur; and Calubian, Leyte.

Significant improvements were noted, particularly in remote provinces of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Globe has allotted $1.3 billion in capital expenditure this year, down by 30 percent from 2022.

The company built 542 new cell sites, and upgraded 5,087 mobile sites to LTE as of June 2023, in order to meet the rising data demand of its customers.

It also deployed around 148 thousand fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines, significantly lower than last year’s rollout to maximize the utilization of its existing fiber inventory.

As of the first half of 2023, Globe has fired up 356 new 5G sites across the Philippines, increasing its 5G outdoor coverage to 97.44 percent of the National Capital Region and 91 percent of key cities in Visayas  and Mindanao.
