    Maynilad awards customers rebates

Beginning Wednesday, February 1, the Maynilad Water Services Inc. will give out rebates on 222,221 Metro Manila water service connections, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO).

In an online consultation, a total P27.48 million worth of rebates will be provided to customers deprived of water service from December 2022 to January this year served by Maynilad’s Putatan Water Treatment Plant (PWTP).

The MWSS-RO said a total 18,032 households had no water service for over 24 hours and as consequence will receive a rebate of P376.78 or an aggregate P6.79 million.

As for 204,189 customers that sustained intermittent water connection, the rebate is worth P101.30 or a total of P20.68 million.

Areas under the PWTP supply zone include Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa as well as Bacoor, Imus, Cavite, Rosario and Noveleta in Cavite.

Greg Antonio, Maynilad water production head, said uninterrupted water supply still may not be available in the affected areas until particular civil works are completed to support services in Muntinlupa.

While there should still be water service interruptions, production is now 75 percent of the required supply and maintenance activities should cease within the first quarter this year.

“As water quality gets better, we will be able to restore supply,” Antonio said.

Patrick Ty, MWSS-RO chief regulator, said Maynilad faces more penalties given the issues hounding the PWTP.

“If this lasts long, we are open to additional penalties,” Ty said.
