National ID delivery run still short of goal

The Philippine Statistics Authority has issued and delivered a combined 40.9 million national identification cards, called PhilIDs, to registered persons nationwide, or short of the target set for 2022.

Figures as of January 25 showed at 22.6 million physical IDs and 18.3 million  ePhilIDs, the PSA said.

The Philippine national IDs are issued to Filipino citizens and permanent residents for use in public programs and services.

As of September, around 72.3 million Filipinos have registered with the PSA of the 92 million target registration in 2022.

The PSA last year set a target of issuing  30 million physical IDs and 20 million ePhilIDs.

“As we continue to implement PhilSys, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fast-track the printing of PhilIDs in parallel to the issuance of ePhilIDs,” National Statistician Dennis Mapa said in a statement. “We assure that there is a card allocated for all registered persons and that they will still receive their PhilIDs even if they claim their ePhilIDs,” he added.
