Fish delivery eyed higher as rehab projects take shape

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) on Wednesday said fish deliveries are seen boosted this year as the rehabilitation of regional fish ports in the country near completion.

An internal PFDA publication noted the rehabilitation of the Davao fish port complex is 84.96 percent complete, Iloilo fish port complex 80.95 percent completed, and the Sual fish port halfway done or 49.23 percent completed.

The Zamboanga fish port complex was logged 27.77 percent completed while the Camaligan fish port 21.74 percent complete as at end-December 2022.

According to the PFDA, the renovation and improvement of the Navotas fish port complex is also progressively moving closer to completion but did not detail its completion rate.

Since Navotas fish port is the leading fish supplier for the entire National Capital Region and nearby provinces in Central and South Luzon, its revitalization should soon allow it to cater to more clients and stakeholders.

The PFDA said the Lucena fish port complex had been completed, allowing Quezon Province to become the center of fish trading in Southern Luzon.
