P500 million to modernize Antique Airport

The Department of Transportation has secured an additional P500 million from the national government for the upgrade and runway extension of the Antique Airport.

The fund infusion, made possible in part by the efforts of Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda and Antique Lone District Representative AA Legarda, will be used for the improvement of the Antique Airport and the extension of the gateway’s runway.

Under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), P500 million had been allocated for its construction, rehabilitation and improvement.

DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Roberto Lim said the fund will also be used to relocate the Salazar Elementary School which comes in the way of the runway expansion.

Another portion will likewise fund the construction of a passenger terminal building, control tower, and fire house.

The fund allocation will guarantee an upsurge in tourism and economic activities in Antique and Western Visayas, officials said.
