The Light Rail Manila Corp. on Tuesday said the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension Project Phase 1 could begin serving the riding public in the waning three months of this year.
Jacqueline Gorospe, spokesperson of LRMC said the project is seen 80 percent complete around end-June 2023.
Gorospe said the company targets to start operations at the line soon after.
Phase 1 covers seven kilometers of the 11-km. LRT-1 Cavite Extension, including the Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station and Dr. Santos Station.
The remaining stations between Las Piñas and Niog are scheduled to be fully operational by 2027.
The 11.7-kilometer, 8-station LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite. The project is a joint venture of the DOTr, the Light Rail Transit Authority and the LRMC.
Once fully operational, the line will cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor to 25 minutes from 1 hour and 10 minutes at present and increased the rail line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.
LRMC won the bidding for the project and took over the operation of LRT Line 1 on Sept. 12, 2015. LRT Line 1 runs from Baclaran in Pasay City to Munoz in Quezon City.
