The government and Lopez-owned First Gen Corp. are partners in endeavors supporting agribusiness technologies and projects that improve the livelihood of small farmers and fishermen.
Known as the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), the partners identify agri-aqua production related projects and activities and harvest and post-harvest systems that benefit smallholder farmers and fisher folks.
The parties also agreed to set aside funds and collaborate in priority activities as the project beneficiaries are First Gen host communities and others they support.
They may also enter into other agreements for other special projects that promote and advance their own advocacies and mandates.
PCAARRD is a multi-sectoral research and development body under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) that formulates policies, plans and programs for science and technology-based research and development and spearheads technology transfer initiatives in the agriculture, aquatic and natural resources sector.
First Gen operates power facilities with combined capacity of 3,492 megawatts in a portfolio that include natural gas, geothermal, hydroelectric, wind and solar power generation.
The enterprise also aims to develop and improve the quality of its stakeholders by supporting relevant, responsive, and regenerative programs focused on environment, education and livelihood, particularly in the agri-aqua sector and related technologies.
