The Department of Transportation on Monday said the rail lines in Metro Manila are prepared to extend their scheduled daily trips to help mitigate the disruption caused by the ongoing transport strike on the public commuters.
Transportation undersecretary for railways, Cesar B. Chavez, said the railway lines extending their trips include the Philippine National Railways (PNR), the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3), and the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and 2).
“The PNR now has 14 trainsets from only seven in August 2022. With the transport strike, it will extend its operation by adding 14 trips today, March 6, raising the total trips to 60 from 46,” Chavez said, citing a PNR management report.
The PNR will also add one more out of the Tutuban Station and extend its final departure there to 8:46 p.m. instead of 7:46 p.m.
Chavez said the MRT-3, operating normally, is ready to extend its final trip for the day from North Avenue Station to 10:00 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m. and from Taft Avenue Station to 10:41 p.m. from 10:11 p.m., when necessary.
Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe assured transportation officials that the LRMC is prepared to ensure service and manpower availability for LRT-1. The LRMC is the contract operator of the LRT-1.
Regular trips at LRT-2 from Recto Station last until 9:30 p.m. If extended, the last trip will be until 10:00 p.m.
