LRTA bares shortened rail services for the long Lenten weekend

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Monday said operations at LRT Line 2 are suspended in the days leading to the long Lenten holidays from April 6 to 9 this year.

Rail officials said beginning on Holy Wednesday, April 5, the rail line will implement a shortened operating schedule when train operations end at 7:00 PM for routes bound for Recto and Antipolo.

Lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRTA administrator, said the four-day shutdown will give the LRTA enough time to conduct a thorough maintenance on LRT-2 trains, station facilities, and equipment to ensure the system’s reliability and safety.

“We normally take advantage of the Holy Week to perform our yearly maintenance activities. With this, we appeal for understanding from the riding public and request that they plan their trip and take alternative transportation during this period,” Cabrera said.

After the Holy Week, the normal operations of the LRT-2 connecting Recto and Antipolo, will resume on Monday, April 10 with trips starting 5:00 AM.
