Securities officials are scheduled to meet with micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in Cebu this week as part of their initiative helping the country’s MSME sector find solid financial footing.
The so-called road show of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) hits Cebu this week as they dwell on the capital market’s potential as source of funding for MSMEs.
This will be the second leg of the year-long caravan that opens on March 17 at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel.
The roadshow aims to emphasize the importance of the capital market and of crowdfunding platforms in helping small and medium enterprises raise funds for business expansion.
Crowdfunding is typically conducted by startups and SMEs where the investing public supports a business idea through an online platform. The SEC regulates crowdfunding activities in the country under rules and regulations provided by a SEC memorandum circular.
The crowdfunding intermediaries registered with the SEC include Investree Philippines, SeedIn Technology, Inc., and Eastern Securities Development Corporations (Round One).
Speakers from the intermediaries will be at the roadshow as advisors on how the MSMEs may take advantage of their services.
SEC commissioner Karlo S. Bello will deliver the keynote speech, together with Markets and Securities Regulation Department Director Vicente Graciano Felizmenio Jr.
Other speakers include representatives from the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Investment and Capital Corporation of the Philippines, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and property developer Cebu Landmasters, Inc.
