    Bankers, BSP eye more collaboration this year

    The Bank Marketing Association of the Philippines (BMAP) has committed to further strengthen and promote the industry welfare and interest of the banking public.

    During the recent oath taking and courtesy call of its officers and directors, BMAP discussed areas of collaboration with BSP Governor Felipe Medalla to further strengthen their long-standing partnership.

    BMAP has 46 member banks and associate members who shared their plans and ongoing programs.

    BMAP and BSP jointly promote financial education and inclusion among Filipinos through various programs such as BSP Annual Financial Education Expo, Cyberfraud Information Campaign, and Banking On Your Future (BOYF), among others. Additionally, the Bank Marketing Awards (BMA), a key BMAP initiative running on its 4th year, aims to improve bank marketing and communication practices by recognizing outstanding brand and marketing initiatives.

    The BSP, BMAP and the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) have also been working together to raise awareness on cybersecurity and educate the banking public on cyber threats and online scams amid the rise in digital transactions.

    The joint cyberhygiene information campaign, Check-Protect-Report, underscores that cyber security is a shared responsibility among financial regulators, industry participants and banking consumers.

    Present during the meeting were BMAP President Mai Gacilo Sangalang of Standard Chartered Bank, BMAP Vice President Eric Montelibano of CityState Savings Bank, BMAP Secretary Edelyn Castro of Maybank, BMAP Director for Programs Judith Songlingco of Philippine Business Bank, BMAP Director for Membership Janette Abad Santos of Robinsons Bank, BMAP Director for Publicity and Digital Marketing Tanya Ansaldo-Deakin of Security Bank, and BMAP Election Chair Maria Luz Javier of Avanza, Inc. Joining them are BSP Senior Assistant Governor Edna Villa, BSP Assistant Governor Lyn Javier.

    Other BMAP officers not in the meeting include BMAP Treasurer Emmanuel Mari Valdes of RCBC, BMAP Auditor Estela Calderon of Metrobank, BMAP Director for Industry Relations and Banking Code and Financial Inclusions Miguel Angelo Villa-Real of Philippine Veterans Bank, and BMAP Director for Way and Means Hannah Lopez of BDO.

    BMAP seeks to elevate the practice of bank marketing and communication through membership and public education, industry collaboration, collective participation and by providing recognition to outstanding brand and marketing campaigns and projects of financial institutions.
