Around 102,000 Filipinos joined the ranks of the unemployed in February, raising the number of the jobless to 2.47 million from 2.37 million in January as more people sought employment amid signs of improving economic activity, the Philippine Statistics Authority said Tuesday.
Undersecretary and National Statistician Dennis Mapa said a total 1.55 million people joined the labor force in February but just around 1.45 million managed to find jobs.
“The simple explanation is that not all who joined the labor force was absorbed by our labor market.”
