Local water service provider Tubig Pilipinas Group Inc. is keen on constructing its first septage treatment plant (STP) project in the municipality of Coron in Palawan.
Ryan Yapkianwee, Tubig Pilipinas president, said the facility is in partnership with Coron Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Association (CRWASA) and its construction and operation is part of their service obligations in areas where they operate or initiate joint ventures.
“Currently, we have five projects under contract with wastewater treatment as part of our service obligation, one of which is with CRWASA Tubig Coron wherein the planning, design, land purchase and clearing operation were already done. We are preparing for the actual construction which we are targeting to start before the end of 2023,” Yapkianwee said.
Yapkianwee also said such projects are of critical importance in top tourist destinations of the country such as Coron as these help protect resources such as beaches and wildlife from pollution and contamination and their impact on the livelihood of locals.
Tubig Pilipinas said that last year, Coron hosted more than 100,000 tourists, second only to El Nido’s 250,000 visitors.
The company has 12 operation sites in Luzon and the Visayas that include bulk water supply injection joints in Bacolod, bulk water supply and direct water distribution in Cadiz, Negros Occidental, bulk and direct water distribution at National Housing Authority projects in Trece Martires, General Trias, and Tanza in Cavite, and a water supply system project in Calasiao, Pangasinan, among others.
Tubig Pilipinas also has existing projects being pursued with the Manila Water Co. Inc. through Manila Water Philippine Ventures, Inc.
