The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) expressed support for the Land Bank of the Philippines’ anti bill shock program helping mitigate the impact of high electricity rates in the hot months ahead.
The program extends credit to distribution utilities (DUs) in need of a capita boost, especially in the hot months ahead when consumer electricity consumption typically rises.
Land Bank launched the program a week earlier to help DUs cushion the impact of increases in both generation and distribution expense as the hot months wear on and electricity demand rises.
The program provides relief to consumers by giving them options in the payment their bills via installment or payment on staggered basis.
“The ERC extends its deepest gratitude to the Land Bank of the Philippines for responding to the call for help in ensuring the availability of sustainable and affordable energy for electricity consumers,” said Monalisa Dimalanta, ERC chairperson.
Dimalanta said the program is a good example of a whole-of-government approach in the energy sector by helping consumers find relief to their financing woes.
