NGCP completes North Luzon substation upgrades

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has energized new power transformers in substations across North Luzon as part of the second stage of its substation upgrade project boosting power transmission services in the region.

The company said the project costs P9.93 billion but has energized the 100 megavolt-ampere (MVA) transformer at the Tuguegarao substation in Cagayan and another 100MVA transformer in San Esteban substation in Ilocos Sur last February.

Another 100MV transformer was also energized at the Laoag substation in Ilocos Norte in March, which are upgrades meant to accommodate load growth and provide contingency for the substations.

“Without the project, power interruptions may be experienced by customers in the event of failure of existing transformers and power circuit breakers,” the NGCP said.

Apart from the Ilocos, NGCP is set to upgrade substations in La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales and Nueva Ecija.
