    DITO steadily acquires telecommunications towers

EdgePoint Infrastructure, an independent telecommunications infrastructure company based in Asia, on Monday activated its first tower in partnership with DITO Telecommunity. EdgePoint operates in the Philippines via its subsidiary, EdgePoint Towers Inc..

Having earlier secured ownership of a 48-meter, ground-based tower in Tanay, Rizal province, EdgePoint successfully made the tower ready for installation (RFI) in under two weeks.

The sit enables DITO Telecommunity to serve more than 139,000 residents in the area and at the same time begin a partnership with EdgePoint that should soon rollout so-called  colocation projects across Luzon.

Suresh Sidhu, chief executive officer at EdgePoint Infrastructure, said: “With government, via the Department of Information and Communications Technology, encouraging the installation of shared telecommunications towers via independent tower companies, EdgePoint Philippines is focused on making its tower network available to all operators for fast-track deployment.”

At present, EdgePoint Philippines operates 2,557 active sites across the country. It targets to operate a total 3,000 by the end of this year.
