Japan’s JGC Group gets to build the 20-MW Bataan solar project

Renewable energy firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. has awarded the construction of the 20-megawatt Solana solar power project in Hermosa, Bataan to the Philippine unit of Japan’s JGC Group which is into power, petroleum refining, petrochemicals, metals, minerals and biofuels.

Alternergy said JGC Philippines was selected in a competitive bidding process with six other companies from China, Germany, India and Japan.

Solana Solar Alpha, the Alternergy subsidiary leading the solar development project, has issued the notice to proceed with early work activities at the plant.

Vincent Perez Jr., Alternergy chairman, said proceeds from the company’s recent public listing allowed it to buy the project site which is only 500 meters from the interconnection point at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ Hermosa substation.

Altenergy eyes building up to 350 MW of power projects over the next three to five years broken down into 33 MW for solar, 220 MW for onshore wind and 50 MW for run-of-river hydro projects.

Alternergy also has an ongoing partnership with Shell Overseas Investment B.V. to pursue offshore wind projects in the Philippines.
