GCash, the e-wallet, mobile payments and online banking unit operated by Mynt with 86 million users, on Tuesday committed to return all legitimate money transfer claims that may have been inadvertently processed by the app as it services faltered late night Monday.
This was the commitment that Globe Group executive vice president, chief sustainability and corporate communications officer Yolly Crisanto told members of Tuesday Club.
She emphasized that GCash services have since been restored, saying in an advisory posted on Facebook that the app is online and running normally.
“We would like to inform you that we are back and we have restored our services. We apologize for the temporary downtime. Rest assured that your funds are safe. We recommend restarting your phone to avoid any issues. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” it said.
Crisanto also clarified that supposed fund transfers from GCash to local commercial lender EastWest Bank are unfounded but nevertheless gave assurance that such transactions, which are normally processed as a matter of course because the senders themselves confirm them, will be promptly returned.
“If legitimate, we will repatriate those transfers,” she said.
Also, the Globe Telecom executive urged its 81 million subscribers to register their subscriber identity module or SIM cards before the extended registration period lapses again in just a few months.
“We do not want to disenfranchise more or less 40 million Globe subscribers so please register as early as you can,” Crisanto said of mobile phone users who continue to resist or wait for the deadline to approach before taking action.
According to Crisanto, the Globe SIM registration process had been made as painless as possible to encourage prompt registration so that even for subscribers in far-flung areas of the country could have their devices registered merely by presenting identification as simple as a barangay clearance.
As of mid-April, Globe reported having registered subscribers number just under 40 million of its 86.7 million subscriber base.
