DITO Telecommunity Corp. on Wednesday said it deployed street level 5G microsite in Dasmarinas Village, Makati to provide comprehensive coverage speed and capacity for the whole of the village.
“DITO has provided a solution that is the first of its kind in the PH that is aimed at breaking this impasse together with our partner solutions provider Huawei for this project,” said DITO chief technology officer General Rodolfo Santiago.
“These DITO micro sites are installed in street lamp posts in strategic locations in and around the village to provide ‘true’ 5G or stand-alone 5G connectivity to residents of Dasmarinas Village, and not the hybrid 4G-5G currently offered by the two other telcos,” he added. ”
Santiago said the technology has far-reaching effects, especially in areas where tower-building is prohibited or not allowed.
“This launch is testament to the ongoing commitment of DITO in the PH to provide world class service to our countrymen wherever they may be,” he added.
The company earlier bared capital expenditures (Capex) this year amounting to P27 billion, lower last year’s P50 billion.
The company already spent over P200 billion for the initial rollout of its infrastructure as part of its commitment to invest P257 billion over a five-year period to achieve 55 megabits per second of internet speed, covering 84 percent of the population.
At present, DITO’s coverage extend over 78 percent of the population.
As of end-December 2022, DITO has 15 million subscribers.
