ACEN Corp. secured the approval of the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to acquire a portfolio of eight operating wind projects in northern Texas.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company said the FERC has authorized ACEN’s acquisition of 136 megawatts (MW) of wind assets from US-based GlidePath Power Solutions LLC through its joint-venture company, UPC Power Solutions LLC.
ACEN said UPC Power and GlidePath will now proceed to complete the acquisition but did not elaborate further.
Earlier, ACEN said the US acquisition will generate approximately 360 gigawatt hours of wind energy each year, enough to power 24,000 households and avoid adding 127,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
ACEN said the acquisition serves as its entry to the US renewables market and expand its geographic footprint beyond the Asia-Pacific region.
Last year, ACEN, through subsidiary ACEN USA LLC, struck a partnership with Pivot Power Management and UPC Solar and Wind Investments LLC to acquire wind projects in the US and extend their useful life through preventative maintenance and repowering.
Apart from the Philippines and the US, ACEN also has operations in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Lao PDR.
The entire ACEN group now has more than 2,400 MW of projects under construction. It plans owning 20,000 MW worth of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
