Social activist calls out ‘sexually charged’ motorcycle taxi ad

The Move As One Coalition and some commuters on Friday slammed motorcycle taxi operator Angkas for posting on its social media platforms the promo code “ANGKASDADDY” with graphics showing a young woman in a car saying “Stepdad, I’m stuck.”

On Twitter, Reycel Hyacenth Nacario Bendaña from the Move As One Coalition asserted the marketing ploy is “a bad ad” as Angkas, is “a male-led and male-dominated company promoting incest and unhealthy sexual power dynamics in an ad.”

Bendaña also shared a message she sent to Angkas chief executive and founder George Royeca in which she cited cases of “sexual abuse by stepfathers in the Philippines, many of them unreported.”

“This ad normalizes incest and make[s] it seem funny.”

The public transport advocate added that the ad also “sends a very dangerous message to the rest of the men.”

“As a regular Angkas user, I feel personally threatened,” she said.

Bendaña, meanwhile, said that Angkas took down the alleged insensitive post after she sent a message to Royeca.

“Will wait for further actions if may statement or any other form of additional accountability,” she added.

According to Camille Andrie, Angkas was “insensitive towards sexual abuse victims” as the tweet “might be traumatizing to some.”

Mavic Mavs Sanchez, on the other hand, called the post a “cheap idea,” while Rorie Ocampo said it was “a very, very distasteful and insensitive marketing choice.”

Representatives of Angkas were unavailable for comment as of press time.
