Telco hounds OFW digital service in workplaces around the world

PLDT Global Inc. has partnered with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in a program focused on the  global Filipino.

The PLDT Global program called TINBO, or Tindahan ni Bossing, is a one-stop gateway for digital services providing free Wi-Fi within the DMW premises in Mandaluyong City, as well as zero-rated calls to the DMW hotline catering to both pre-departing overseas Filipinos and those who are already deployed abroad.

“Our DMW partnership is aligned with our commitment to provide global Filipinos access to digital services. Through TINBO, we empower millions of overseas Filipinos with the digital services that help them take care of their families back home and at the same time, aid our partner-merchants and concerned government agencies, such as the DMW, reach and serve the large market of Filipinos abroad,”  Albert V. Villa-Real, president and chief executive at PLDT Global, said.

“We need to transform our OFWs into digitally-skilled workers and perhaps train them on social media etiquette, assist in entrepreneurship and employment opportunities,” said DMW Secretary Susan Ople.

Customers can register via tinbo.ph  to get a Smart virtual number (SVN), that serves as their Philippine mobile number whenever they are outside the country.

Their SVN – powered by Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), PLDT Inc.’s wireless unit – also allows TINBO users to receive one-time passwords (OTPs) for secure payment and banking transactions, as well as to receive calls and texts without a physical SIM.

The SVN will enable overseas Filipinos to receive SMS updates and announcements from the DMW and enjoy free calls to the DMW hotline from anywhere in the world.
