Panay Islands has been awarded one of Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations—the highest honor bestowed by the travel platform that helps over 460 million travelers every month–in the world for 2023.
The central Philippine island is ranked 16th of the 25 destinations whose hotels, restaurants, and things to do got high volume of “above-and-beyond reviews and opinions” over a 12-month period.
“Fewer than 1 percent of Tripadvisor’s 8 million listings are awarded Best of the Best, signifying the highest level of excellence in travel,” said Tripadvisor.
The travel platform said travelers know Panay as the jump-off point for the white-sand and turquoise-water beaches of Boracay, which surprisingly isn’t awarded among the top 25 Best of the Best.
Between January 1 and June 15 this year, Boracay has drawn over 1 million domestic and foreign visitors.
Tripadvisor said Panay has more to offer than Barocacy.
“If you’ve got a few extra days to explore, you’ll find a whole lot more to the Filipino island—from the rugged mountains and rivers of Antique to the history and architecture of Iloilo City. It’s also a food-lover’s dream: Dig into the best seafood in the country (some travelers say) at Baybay Beach or hop over to Guimaras Island to try some of the sweetest mangoes in the world,” it added.
Awards such as TripAdvisor could help a travel destination attract more visitors.
