The Department of Transportation has secured funding support from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center on the conduct of a pre-feasibility study on the North Integrated Transport System (ITS) Project.
With approval of its Project Development and Monitoring Fund (PDMF), the DOTr may now enter into a technical assistance agreement with the PPP Center to start the selection of consultants.
The PDMF is a revolving fund the PPP Center manages to boost the investment environment for PPPs and develop a robust pipeline of viable and well prepared PPP projects in accordance with the BOT Law, government joint venture guidelines, and LGU PPP Code.
The North ITS project is an integrated, multi-modal transport and logistics system designed as a multi-level mixed-use terminal facility to be located in northern NCR. It benefits the commuting public by reducing traffic congestion along EDSA by relocating bus terminals in Quezon City to the terminal, create effective interconnections between various transport modes and services, and increase access to public transportation services for the commuting public.
The project is expected to host northbound provincial buses (from Metro Manila and vice versa), serve passengers bound for/departing from areas in northern NCR, and connect passengers to other urban transport systems (e.g., railways, buses, taxis) serving inner Metro Manila.
The proposed terminal will incorporate universal design principles, gender responsive features, and crime prevention through environmental designs (CPED) that address the needs of persons with limited mobility, senior citizens, women, and all other vulnerable groups.
The project is also expected to be responsive to environmental changes by integrating climate-appropriate and disaster-resilient features using energy-efficient materials in its development.
