Philippine Airlines is unfazed by the entry of United Airlines in the Manila to San Francisco (SFO) market.
“Philippine Airlines welcomes the additional competition in transpacific routes, a sign of the strength and vitality of the air travel market between the Philippines and the United States,” the Lucio Tan-led airline said.
According to the airline, PAL has always embraced healthy competition among the different players across the network.
PAL operates 37 weekly flights on U.S. routes, including double daily flights to Los Angeles, daily flights each to San Francisco and Guam, and several weekly flights to New York and Honolulu.
“Our efforts have helped boost tourism, facilitate stronger PH-U.S. economic ties, and serve balikbayanfamilies, business travelers and trade flows in recent decades. We remain committed to those efforts to serve North America,” the airline said.
United Airlines (UAL) earlier announced it would start new nonstop daily service from Manila (MNL) to San Francisco (SFO) beginning 30 October this year.
The first westbound flight from SFO to Manila will depart on 29 October.
