Filinvest Development Corp., the investment holding company of the Gotianun Group, said Thursday it has proposed to increase water supply in Cebu City through desalination, a project that would benefit over one million residents of the central Philippine city.
Filinvest Hitachi Omni Waterworks, a joint venture between FDC and Singapore-based Hitachi Aqua-Tech Engineering, delivers bulk water supply to Cebu City, Talisay City, and Lapu-Lapu City under a 25-year contract with the Metro Cebu Water District.
FLOW president and chief executive officer Johnny Roxas assured Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama that the company has the experience and expertise in desalination technology that would benefit the city. FLOW has been operating desalination and water treatment plants in Lapu-lapu City the past five years.
The company delivered 527,000 liters of free potable water to 12,000 Cebuano families in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Odette through Pusong Filinvest in 2021.
“We are committed to support the development and progress of Cebu City by addressing its water supply challenges,” said Roxas in a company statement.
Filinvest Land Inc. president Tristan Las Maria said the project would benefit around 300,000 households in Cebu City.
“With the operation of these new water desalination and treatment plants, we aim to provide clean and sustainable water to the people of Cebu,” Las Marias added.
