The government is planning a new round of adjustments in the salary of government workers and has already tasked the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) to assess the proposal.
This developed in the wake of a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. asking Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman if the monthly compensation of civil servants is competitive against their private sector counterparts.
“When it comes to implementing another round of increases, binigyan po kami ng direktiba ni President Bongbong Marcos na magsagawa ng study para masiguro na ang compensation ng lahat ng ating mga civilian government personnel ay maging generally competitive kumpara sa mga nagtatrabaho sa private sector,” the Budget Secretary said.
The proposed adjustment is meant to encourage Filipinos to serve in government and motivate even more those already in the service.
Pangandaman said the GCG has already been allocated with P48 million to review the Compensation and Position Classification System of the government sector.
It was only in January this year that the fourth and final tranche of salary adjustments for government workers that began three years earlier was completed.
The Department of Budget and Management also earlier allocated P1.368 billion under next year’s proposed budget to fund an additional P1,000 as clothing allowance for each government worker numbering 1.3 million.
Pangandaman said increases of the kind proposed by the President are of great help to every single government employee in their daily lives.
