ThermaPrime completes drilling additional geothermal wells

ThermaPrime Drilling Corp. has completed drilling 12 geothermal production wells and three multilateral injection wells for the Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc. (PGPC).

The company reported the entire campaign produced more than 100 megawatts (MW) for PGPC from geothermal steam fields in Laguna, Batangas and Tiwi in Albay.

ThermaPrime said the wells were carried out over a period of four years and that the Makiling-Banahaw project is by far the country’s deepest with a depth of 11,849 feet completed in under a month.

ThermaPrime is a fully-owned subsidiary of general contractor, First Balfour Inc. and part of the Lopez Group of Companies.

PGPC is among the first geothermal energy developers in Southeast Asia looking to widen its other geothermal concessions and increase its renewable energy output to 600 MW consistent with government’s RE development program.

PGPC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SM Investments Corp., its steam fields credited with the reduction of at least 57.5 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions since first starting commercial operations equivalent to 188,802 hectares of trees.
