DA lifts poultry import ban from Poland

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the temporary ban on poultry products from Poland.

Memorandum Order 60 – 23 signed by senior undersecretary Domingo Panganiban on Wednesday lifted the prohibition after Poland provided evidence of having contained the spread of the virus making the bird flu such a threat to health and commerce.
The memo now allows the importation of domestic and wild birds and their products including poultry meat, day old chicks, eggs and semen from Poland subject to existing import rules.

Data from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) show the Philippines importing a total 249.37 million kilograms of poultry meat in the first seven months of the year, with none from 

Poland.Based on DA monitoring of public markets, whole dressed chicken prices range from P150 to P210 per kilo while medium-sized chicken eggs sell for P6.30 to P8.50 a piece.
