Malacanang on Saturday announced the appointment of key personalities as the newest members of the policy-making Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Appointed to a fresh six-year term are Romeo L Bernardo, former undersecretary at the Department of Finance, and Rosalia V. De Leon, who is a third term Treasurer of the Philippines.
Their appointments brings to six the number of MB members that by law should total seven, including the BSP governor who is MB chairman currently held by Eli Remolona who for 19 years worked at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and 14 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
MB appointee Bernardo, currently board director at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), has worked for multilateral institutions as the World Bank, the International Finance Corp, the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
MB appointee De Leon headed the International Finance Group at the Department of Finance where she was undersecretary until her designation as Treasurer of the Philippines. She has served as alternate executive director at the World Bank and as advisor at the Asian Development Bank.
Apart from BSP chief Remolona, the other MB members include Bruce J. Tolentino, Anita Linda R. Aquino and Benjamin Diokno.
