Damage to agriculture due to incessant southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon Goring is initially pegged at P1.07 billion, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center, a DA attached agency, said this redounds to 46,811 metric tons (MT) of farm goods tended by 31,060 farmers working over 42,333 hectares (ha) of land areas.According to the DA, damage on rice crops alone amount to P905.92 million and the loss of 36,794 MT of the staple.
Damage on corn amount to P147.43 million and the loss of 9,694 MT of the grainThe estimated damage on so-called high-value crops was placed at P12.50 million with livestock and poultry of another P2.59 million.
DA said the data relates to captures in Calabarzon, Western Visayas and Mimaropa.
