Upson International Corp, a retailer of personal computers and information technology products, on Tuesday said its new warehouse in Manila operational by year’s end will support its growing customer base in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.
The new facility is close to the Port of Manila that Upson and several technology brand suppliers have chosen as their headquarters.
It is also less than a kilometer from Upson’s old warehouse and adds to similar sites in Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.
“Achieving our long-term strategy requires investment in supply chain capacity and infrastructure to improve our overall performance and maintain our leadership in the industry,” Upson CEO Arlene Sy said.
“The strategic location of this warehouse gives us proximity advantages. Being near our customers and suppliers drives competitiveness and sustainability by enabling delivery speed, optimizing costs, and reducing road transport and its associated emissions. Its short distance to our other warehouse and headquarters can also boost efficiency and productivity in operations,” she said.
The six-story building has total floor area of 7,047 square meters with four floors for warehouse use and two for loading, unloading and parking. Construction began in September 2021 and now 83 percent complete.
It should be fully operational by December. As previously announced, new warehouses are planned in Cabanatuan, Dagupan, Naga, Palawan, Iloilo, Bacolod, General Santos, and Zamboanga.
Upson operates store brands such as Octagon, Micro Valley, Gadget King, Octagon Mobile, and concept stores.
In the first six months this year, Upson reported net income falling 7 percent to P205.44 million from P222.46 million last year on higher finance costs. But sales rose six percent to P4.51 billion from P4.24 billion it attributed to the opening of six new stores thus far this year. Upson’s store network number 214 from only 208 last year.
