NGCP readies contingent measures amid Taal unrest

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Sunday bared contingency measures in place should Taal volcano activity in Batangas disrupt transmission facilities.

But thus far, NGCP said, volcanic activity has spared the system from damage although a regional command center had been activated in South Luzon and quick response teams on standby for deployment.

While transmission services in affected areas remain normal, line crews are being prepared for mobilization to inspect and conduct cleaning of critical line equipment as necessary and the situation demands.

In January 2020, the Luzon grid went into yellow alert as some power plants went offline due to severe ash fall from the Taal volcano.
