Water franchisees, MWSS partner in watershed management roadmap

The water distribution utilities serving Metro Manila have committed to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System to help fund and carry out programs to protect and rehabilitate the watershed areas that supply water to Angat, Ipo and La Mesa dams.

The agreement signed just last week is dubbed as the integrated watershed management roadmap for Angat, Ipo and La Mesa  or IWMRAIL in association with the corporate office of the MWSS.

Angat, Ipo and La Mesa supply Metro Manila with clean and safe water 24/7. “It goes without saying that this is a very important endeavor that we, as concessionaires, and the MWSS are committing to. We are very happy that this initiative has come to” fruition, said Jocot de Dios, Manila Water president and chief executive officer, at the signing.

Starting the second half, Manila Water and partners target to plant and nurture 580,000 trees and reforest 1,000 hectares over two years through an intensified water security and climate change mitigation program.
